'LAST WEDNESDAY FORUM
The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD),
together with its outreach center Daila
invite you to their next English-language monthly lecture and discussion series in the "Last Wednesday Forum."
The forum is intended to strengthen the dialogue between representatives of the international community and important voices within the critical peace and human rights community in Israel – voices of Israeli NGOs, activist groups and academics seldom heard in official dialogue. The lecture/discussion will be held at the Daila Center on Wednesday, 30th of January, at 7:30 PM.
This month the speakers will conduct a wide-ranging discussion around the theme:
"Will the Goldberg Commission Solve the Problem of 45 'Unrecognized Bedouin Villages' in the Negev?
A View of Israel's Treatment of Its Bedouin Citizens"
The speakers are:
Dr.Yeela Raanan. Public Affairs, Regional Council for the Unrecognized Villages, and lecturer in Public Policy and Administration at the Sapir College; and
Khalil Alamour, Committee Member, A-Sireh (unrecognized) Village and a Math Teacher in the Kseife High School
For sixty years Israel has implemented policies to concentrate and urbanize its Arab-Bedouin population, while "freeing" the Negev land for its Jewish citizens' use. The results of these policies are 45 unrecognized villages, mass home demolitions and serious violations of civil rights. On January 15th a new public commission convened to formulate recommendations on how to solve these issues. We will discuss these policies and their results in light of initial information about the "Goldberg Commission".
The Daila Center is located at Shlomzion Hamalka Street 4, opposite the Ministry of Interior in West Jerusalem. Donations at the door are welcome.
